Uta Bekaia. The Longest Day

August 07, 2021 — October 31, 2021

The Longest Day by Uta Bekaia

The costumes created by Uta Bekaia for the Summer Solstice Celebration event will remain on display in an exhibit titled The Longest Day.

The Summer Solstice Celebration event honors age-old traditions of exalting the triumph of light over darkness, and the mystery of midsummer through creative technicolor performances and original costumes.

Gloriously colorful, the costumes transform from bodily armor into a fluid sculptural series, embodied, and yet in dialogue with the metaphysical. The designs are inspired by traditional solstice carnival-wear, and so, retain a level of detail and complexity in combination with cheerful naïveté only found in the pagan context.
