Summer Pop-ups: Sarah Kohrs

August 13, 2017, 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Sarah Kohrs was born and raised in Brainard, NY, a small hamlet outside of the Berkshires in Massachusetts. She began playing the piano when she was seven years old, and graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2004. While at Eastman, she discovered her love of Joni Mitchell, and the improvisations of the jazz musicians that played at Java’s coffeehouse every weekend.  After graduating from Eastman, she attended Georgetown University Law Center, and worked as an attorney for five years in Boston.  During this time, she began writing pop songs. After five years in Boston, she moved back to the area she grew up in, and began connecting with other musicians in the Berkshires while working for a small law firm in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.  By 2017, she and her musical collaborator, Mark Tuomenoksa, had put out their first album, and Sarah’s catalogue of original songs had grown into the hundreds.  Her style had blossomed into something vaguely reminiscent of Joni, but with her own unique country flare playing a prominent role. Today, she has performed her original works in local venues, as well as venues in New York, NY; Asheville, NC; Baton Rouge, LA; and New Orleans.
